Tamil Nadu, intellectually rich and industrially vibrant, Tamil Nadu is amongst the southernmost states of India. Bordered by Puducherry, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh, the state (area: 130,058 sq km) has the Palk Strait at its southeast and is bordered by both the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean to the south. The eastern ghats lie to its north and it plays host to the Nilgiris and Annamalai Hills in the west while it is served by the river Kaveri in the main.

The state has been a pioneer in the concept of cluster growth for industry and has amongst the highest number of industries in the country with the manufacturing sector giving an excellent account of itself while the primary sector (agriculture and allied activities), too, show impressive growth. The capital city of Chennai is a leading automotive hub with leading global automakers establishing operations in the state, while Coimbatore is a major textiles hub.
