Cummins\' India footprint strength..

Cummins' India footprint strengthened at its  - Phaltan megasite

The Cummins group in India, comprising engine, generator, components manufacturing companies, has inaugurated its fourth facility, a parts distribution centre, at its megastie at Phaltan, about 100 kms from Pune. This was followed by the ground breaking ceremony for its fifth plant, an industrial engine upfit centre by Tom Linebarger, president and COO, Cummins Inc, who is also the CEO-designate of the US headquartered multinational. With the launch of the fourth facility, the Cummins' group investment in the megasite is now approximately US $100 million, a statement released here noted.
Earlier in in the year, Cummins launched the first three facilities comprising the second manufacturing facility of Tata Cummins Limited after Jamshedpur, an engine rebuild center and a reconditioning facility for remanufacturing engines and components. The Parts Distribution Centre, or PDC, has been established with the aim to enhance supply chain efficiency in aftermarket parts distribution as well as a logistics hub.
Its fifth facility will upfit diesel and natural gas mechanical and electronic B and L series engines and manufacture C series engines which have power generation, industrial and automotive applications. This plant will come on stream by mid-2012 and have the capacity to manufacture 20,000 engines annually.

The Cummins Megasite was conceived four years ago to house ongoing and future expansion of the Cummins Group in India. In March 2008, three Cummins entities were awarded 'Mega Project' status by the Government of Maharashtra for their projects at the Cummins Megasite. The Cummins group in India comprises eight companies, with engine maker Cummins India being the flagship company.
