Methodology: How FORTUNE Chose the 100 Best Companies to Work For FORTUNE partners with the Great Place to Work Institute, a global research and consulting firm that operates in 45 countries, and conducts the most extensive employee survey in corporate America. 255 firms participated in this years survey. More than 187,572 employees from those companies responded to a survey created by the Great Place to Work Institute. Two-thirds of a companys score is based on the result from the institutes Trust Index survey, which is sent to a random sample of employees from each company. The survey asks questions about attitudes towards managements credibility, job satisfaction, and camaraderie.
