Baumueller India will cater to automation markets from Africa to SE Asia

Baumueller India, part of the German family held Baumueller group, will service the region from Africa to South East Asia, including the Middle East. The India office, located in Pune, will offer maintenance, repair and service support to customers in these geographies, the group's chief financial officer, Jochen Loy, said. The group provides automation and electric drive systems for the printing, textiles, packaging and plastics industries.
"We have five manufacturing plants in Europe and one is being set up in China. In India, we will move to assembly of our machines over the next few years," Loy said, adding that another group company, Nuermont, which is a specialis provider in factory re-location, could also set up shop in India. "We need business of around Euro 5 million to bring in this service. In India, we have re-lcoated steel mills from France and the US as well as printing machines from Switzerland for customers in India," he said.

The India operations, which began as a JV with a local partner, has been a wholly-owned subsidiary for over three years. As part of the parent's expansion plans for India, a global help desk has been set up here to handle queries from across the world. Baumueller India, managing director, ES Kumar said this will eventually be scaled up. "We will also develop software for global use first through an outsourced mode and later have our own development centre," Kumar said.

The parent company has so far invested around Euro 5 million in its India operations.
